Salkantay 5 days/ 4 nightsThis is one of the most spectacular and varied hikes around Cusco and given the new restrictions on the Inca Trail, has become the second most popular hike in the region, Your first two days are dominated by the immpresive "Apus" of Salkantay and Humantay, as you pass through the high puna landscape. The rest of the trip is spent descending through the luxurious high jungle, which is rich in plants, birds and animal life. Your reward at the end of this hike is a visit to the very special ruins of Machupicchu. Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Silcacancha - Soraypampa A 7 hours hike to an altitude of 3,800 meters...You will be collected from your hotel at 05:30am in the morning, and within two hours we will arrive to the small village of Mollepata where we will have breakfast and organize our horses. From this village we will begin our hike and progressively ascend to Siccllacancha, passing by pretty farming country side and cows grazing the whole way. At Siccllacancha we will have a delicious lunch while enjoying views of the mountain peak Humantay. After lunch we continue with a gentle hike to our first campsite. Day 2: Soraypampa - Salkantaypampa - paso - Wairacmachay - Arrayaniyoc - Chaullay 8 hours hike to an altitude of 3,000 meters...On this day we will climb for three hours to arrive to the Salkantay Pass, which is the highest point of the trip (4,800 meters), After reaching this high point, we descend for five hours passing through puna vegetation (small plants), and a glacier before reaching the high jungle, which is rich in plants and birds. Day 3: Chaullay - Colpapampa - Winaypoco - Lluscamayo - Playa 6 hours hike to an altitude of 1900 meters...After breakfast we walk through the high jungle (known in spanish as the eyebrow of the jungle), enjoying the landscapes which offer as much natural beauty. The day follows a gentle descent to the small high jungle village of Playa where we will spend the night. Accomodation: Camping at Playa (or possibly Santa Teresa). Day 4: Playa - Hydroeletric - Aguas Calientes 5 hours hike to an altitude of 2000 meters...In the morning we head towards Santa Teresa in a bus or truck, after which we cross the Vilcanota river in a flying fox. After this exiting crossing we hike for two hours until we arrive at the immpresive Machupicchu Hydroelecric system where we will have lunch and visit an Inca ruin. After this, we will walk for 2.5 hours more along the train track to arrive at the village of Aguas Calientes. A soak in the thermal baths here are often the perfect respite for aching muscles!!! Accomodations: Hostel in Aguas Calientes. Day 5: We have a guided visit of the lost city of the incas, Machupicchu and can appreciate the sunrise from the Intypunku (the sun gate), (weather permitting), We return to Cusco in the afternoon by the backpacker train, arriving around 8:20pm Included:
